The Reddys are a socio-economically dominant caste in South India. Though Reddys regard Andhra Pradesh as their homeland and Telugu as their mother tongue, they form an intricate part of the Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharastra society as well. Many Reddys migrated to Tamil Nadu centuries ago and have formed a distinct community that is completely incorporated into Tamil culture. However, marriage between Andhra and Tamil Reddys is still common. Reddiar is a Tamilianised version of Reddy.
