Madhwa refers to Madhvacharya, the Vaishnavite saint and founder of the Dvaita school of thought at Pajaka, Udupi in Karnataka. He considered himself an avatara of the wind-god Vayu and taught the fundamental difference between the individual self or atman and the ultimate reality, brahman. Brahmins who pursued Dvaita Philosophy founded by Vaishnavite are known as Madhwa Brahmins. This community has now spread all over the world. They are known for their hospitality, sharp intellect and good business acumen.
