Balija is a sub caste of the Kapus of Andhra Pradesh. They are an agrarian community spread out in AP, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. They are also referred to by their caste title Naidu and Naicker. Primarily agriculturists, traders or soldiers by occupation they seem to have been formed by social changes that occurred among some sections of the Kapu community according to some historians.
