Concentrated mainly in the coastal Andhra region with pockets in Rayalaseema, North Arcot and Rajapalayam of Tamil Nadu, Bellary of Karnataka and Ganjam of Orissa. Telugu Kshatriyas are also known as Rajus (Rajulu in Telugu). Prominent and influential, the Kshatriyas use Raju or Varma in the Andhra regions and Deo in the Orissa regions as their last name. The history of South India and the Puranas reveal that the Andhra Kshatriyas or Kshatriyas of Andhra Pradesh descended from the Aryavarta (North India). They migrated to the south due to internal conflicts, foreign invasions and famine.
